Sure he can. Presidents traditionally haven't done that, they typically retire to "elder statesman" status. Now true, there are some who claim the 22nd amendment would prohibit it, but that is yet another case of their Just Making Shit Up, like the claim that the president can interpret the Constitution. The amendment clearly states that no President can be elected to the office more than twice. Being a VP isn't the same thing. The logic that the VP is "only a heart beat away" can just as easily apply to anyone in the chain of succession.

And Bill asked a good question, why didn't the press ever grill the administration about not going after UBL over the Cole? We all know why, they even articulated it a couple of times, but why should they get away with ignoring an issue that occurred in an earlier administration so they could chase the phantoms of "rogue nations" and SDI?
