FYI: The defilement of the temple of the human body was a reference to moral defilement. Adultery/fornication was what was under discussion in 1 Corinthians 6. Health-destroying habits such as smoking is today wasn't really the point.

Well, with my little bit of knowledge, I would say not necessarily "defilement", but certainly from a health standpoint, smoking is a detriment to your body, SAME as overeating. It is interesting to go back and read some of the "Lavitical laws" set down by God. Many of which were set down just to guide and protect the "body", (Israel).

But, since I am a reformed smoker, I would say the biggest thing is being addicted to cigarettes. Same as with alcohol, drugs, etc. The addiction makes one weaker and less able to see clearly God's will for oneself.

There is also the possibility of influence. Concerning eating sacrificed meat, read 1 Corinthians 8. verse 9 says this: Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. I could say the same about smoking.

FWIW.
