With allies like Israel, we'll NEVER lack for enemies! Actually, there IS a historical precedent. Our support of Chaing kai Shek in Taiwan. That was a loser from the get go, never had a chance, and kept us from developing relations with China for fifty years. Actually the most important reason is not in the list...that is, to have a fully armed proxy in the region to safeguard our OIL interests...which makes the elimination of this dependecy the MOST IMPORTANT single initiative this country could pursue, and the one GOPers are least likely to propose...for obvious reasons.
