Does the concept of LTBH outdated?

You know, good question. After totally screwing up last January by trading out and going to cash, then scrambling back in and riding through to til May, I mostly committed to ride out the shoulders going forward.

Took some profits in May but tagged this spring as the typical shoulder. Going forward the plan was buy quality and hold a significant long positions and not get cute - Opposite of previous years.

So I'm now watching SU and CNQ get pounded far more than ever expected. Fully bought into the Coxe arguement of holding reserves in safe countries.

Never again will I play the LTBH game in energy. It made alot of sense a few years ago but not now. Back to holding core positions and trading 1/3 to 1/2 of it seasonally. What was I thinking?

On the next go around, I WILL HAVE MORE CASH - Repeat while banging head against computer monitor.

i think it is very difficult to call the bottom, but to my mind what we are seeing is simply distressed selling. those are the days i want to be buying, and i have been buying today.
