i used to be very into diversification. indexing and all that. i'm pretty familiar with the literature on the merits of passive investing. efficientfrontier.com is a great site and i have a lot of respect for Bernstein. but a few years ago i decided the broader markets were going nowhere for a long time and the only way to get performance was to go after specific sector(s). i was in PMs for a while in 2002, but have been focused on the energy sector more or less exclusively since 2003. but i never use leverage, am never 100% invested, and am normally 50/50 equities/cash. now, i have moved to 65% equities.
