Contract prices for DDR2 DRAM see solid rise for build season

The Semiconductor Reporter
September 26, 2006

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- DDR2 DRAM contract prices for the last week of September rose sharply, while spot market prices for the same parts had modest gains over the last week, according to a report today from the DRAMeXchange.

The memory monitor said DDR2 supply remained tight, and contract prices through October are expected to remain strong. Spot market prices, on the other hand were weaker on low procurement activity, the service said.

The latest contract prices showed 533-MHz 512-Mbit (64M by 8) DDR2 up 4.3% from the first of the month to an average $6.54. The average contract price for 667-MHz 512-Mbit DDR2 was $5.40, up 2.8%.

Spot market prices Monday for the 533-MHz 512-Mbit DDR2 parts were an average $6.54, down 0.5% from a week ago, and 667-MHz 512-Mbit DDR2 was selling for $6.75, down 0.7%.

Contract pricing for 400-MHz 512-Mbit DDR1 DRAMs was $5.33, up 0.3%, while 400-MHz 256-Mbit DDR1 was an average $2.58, even with the contract negotiating round at the first of the month. Spot prices for the same parts were an average $6.46 (up 0.8% over the last week) and $3.17 (up 1.6%), respectively.
