Heard this on the radio. It's behind a paywall.

S2,

Who's to blame? No one really...it's a cultural issue. The guys on the European Tour socialize with each other after the matches - they are in the pubs and bistros, having a pint telling stories and enjoying each other's company - our guys go to the tournaments and then off they go on their NetJets. That doesn't make them bad but they are in a different scene.

The next problem, and this will sound weird,....when two guys who know each other well are playing golf against two guys who really don't know each other in a high stakes game, the guys that know each other well will generally do better.

And.....the US was trying too hard. That doesn't work in golf. The Europeans were loose - laughing and having fun. When I saw Tiger (well intentioned) showing Jim Furyk (third in putting accuracy on the PGA) where the break in the putt was I thought there was something very wrong - these guys are pushing way too hard.

These guys need to hang out and get to know one another - that's how you build a team - go rock climbing, rafting, do something that will pull them together.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
