Canada is great canoe country. That kind of vacation is my kind of vacation.

I have a 17 foot Grumman aluminum canoe. It was old when I got it in 1970, and has been out in the weather all that time. It's still just as good as ever. It's so old it has airtank floatation instead of styrofoam, which is much cooler and takes much more craftsmanship than the way they make them now.

It's a bit heavy, but I can carry and load it myself.

Last year there was an encampment five miles from my home where a fellow taught four people how to make birch bark canoes. He charged a fee. Imported his birch bark from Russia. It sounds like something I might like to try, but I'm really not into high maintenance projects so will have to defer.
