I understand and appreciate your sentiment. There are plenty of places on SI for people to go and express there personal gripes. Certainly I have done that myself and probably will in the future. Rich and Ann have been doing that on one of Anne's threads, I have been tempted to join in on that location. If Rich is out of line, and I catch it, I will ban him. "Idiot was being kind." There is nothing kind about the term 'idiot' and we both know that. The rules of the thread do not allow me to favor people I agree with or disagree with, like or dislike, in the management of things. Here is an analogy. There are many countries who've developed good democratic constitutions but because they allowed the same ole stuff to slip into the culture, they are no different than the surrounding countries. I can think of several but look at Egypt or Pakistan for example. Do you honestly think their leaders will ever be out of office short of death or a coup? I don't. This thread asks that we not only declare a noble stand but we actually live by it. If we can't or wont do that, then the thread dies (at least as it was intended). I would encourage all to keep trying but its up to you. If you don't think it is worth it don't try. If you want to test the goal of the thread you have too choices: 1) Do your best to support the idea, inspite of how offensive some views are to you, 2) Test me to see if I will ban you for dishonoring the goal of the thread. In this case 'idiot' is clearly a personal attack and never justified according to the thread rules. It doesn't change things that Rich started it. Two wrongs don't make a right. Bigot or hate monger may be appropriate if you can show that Rich has been defaming the members of a group based on some general group identifier that does not apply to all members of that group. I haven't been following it but if he has only been presenting his resources that build an argument for his conspiracy theory, that wont qualify. If his information is inaccurate or his opinion is flawed it is the responsibility of other posters to provide corrective information.
