In wars there is no Monday morning quarter backing. Either you ar part of it or out of it!

When India was enjoying and basking in this glory in Summer of 1980 Moscow, thousands of Pakistanis were dying fighting the Soviets.

1980 Moscow, USSR
Hockey team under Captain Vasudevan Bhaskaran Hockey Gold Medal after 16 years by winning over Spain 4-3 in the finals.

Jimmy Carter didn't introduce politics to the Olympics -- they were old, familiar friends. But after Soviet tanks rolled into Afghanistan in 1979, then-U.S. President Carter brought that relationship to the forefront. He called for the U.S. team to boycott the 1980 Moscow Olympics. But after Soviet tanks rolled into Afghanistan in 1979, then-U.S. President Carter brought that relationship to the forefront. He called for the U.S. team to boycott the 1980 Moscow Olympics. In the end, some 60 teams boycotted the Moscow Games. Among U.S. allies, Great Britain, France, Italy and Sweden attended; )

Pakistan was fighting this proxy war on behalf of USA and Indians were attending the Olympics. Now today with benefit of hindsight to comment on what led to 'radicalism in Pakistan' is little too rich in my opinion. Comments on society are left for people who have fought wars and seen wars, in recent past it was in our region unfortunately Pakistan, India always sided with the Soviets leftist agenda and non-aligned movement. Now that Soviets have imploded and Software in Bangalore has shown the way to the Silicon Valley, democracy becomes number one subject but we poor Pakistanis were fighting a proxy war in a region we didn't have too, we were importing on US expense lot of radicals like OBL and giving them Casey gifted Stingers little did we ever realise that for all this it is us who will branded the terrorists, that is the worst part of the injustice that hurts. I wished we could beaten India and in Hockey in Moscow not listened to Carter and Reagan and denied them the glory they had after 16 years in achieving the gold medal, if we were there it would have been difficult.

Pakistan is a subject that needs much more broader insight than a standard approach that this post suggests. An instable Pakistan will be a nightmare for India and that is what we preach, like we learned our lessons from Soviets invasions of Afghan lands we ended up with 10 million refugees and a deep travel in time back to medievalism, our North that was far more better got entangled with the medievalism of the Pakhtuns mingled with oil and global Wahhabism planted under the pretext of a global Jihad Inc. Thanks global agenda of CIA/ISI to fight this proxy war with the Soviets, that is one reason of new radicalisation. During that whole war in which Soviets were dismembered politically by the strategy that bled them in Afghanistan, ask me who was their closest ally.. it was India.A decade of war in Afghanistan left deep imprints on the body politics of the region.

In times of ZAB we didn't have cancer of Taliban planted within our body politics by the ruthless foolish invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviets. Things were far less radical. Bhutto was consumed in his own war dance, his characterisation of Indira Ghandi let to 'cold war' of diplomacy between India and Pakistan for a decade. See Fallaci interviews.( the late Pakistani leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, from whom she extracted such criticism of India's Indira Gandhi that a 1972 peace treaty between the two countries almost went unsigned.)

The hard decisions are made by strong man, look at Ata Turk in Turkey, Reza Khan from 1921 in Iran, we may disagree on Iran but whatever Iran has progress until today it was efforts of Reza Shah to bring them to the 20th century, until 1921 Iran was living in 14th. Same is with Pakistan, it is this Army that has to set the agenda to see peace as a reliable option, now they realised they have war gamed adversaries and they know war is not an option. {Peace is the way forward, the elimination of radical agenda cannot be achieved by politicians, it is a historical problem of ages and has to be dealt a coup de grace by surgical methods.

In my opinion a bombed out destroyed Pakistan will be a bigger problem than Afghanistan for the region, this plain point is something that Mush bashing Indians fail to understand, it is far better that Pakistan comes out of the clutches of draconian role of radicals and move on to enlightened version of Mush , we see in Mush some hope that he can lead us to that nirvana, they see 'Kargil' in Mush that is the problem, like Blair `new labor' can we have a niche for a 'new Mush.'

Freedom of expression in Pakistan is one freedom that Ahmedinejad does not accord neither does Saddam ever could have bestowed such a freedom, once someone made a joke amongst the GOC's General Hazza, he was sent back home with his tongue taken out.<<Lieutenant General Omar al-Hazzaa, dared to criticize the Iraqi president. On Saddam's orders, soldiers first cut out the general's tongue. ...Inthefray.com

Now look at what we can say about Mush...

Indians got to know the animal that they are dealing with. The problem is that anything Pakistani and they start descending on it as favourite punch bag. Understand the foe before they should be able to handle the foe. I have conceded that Mush has not been clear on Kargil and should have come out clean but on other counts like AQ Khan and deviousness of our politicians he has done a good job.

Politicians alone in the Islamic world have failed without support of the strongman. This is an engrained system, how can a peacenik who sided with the Soviets during the entire Afghan war can now sit and comment on what went wrong or right. Hindsight is always 6/6, what I am surprised is that common American in their retaliation of 911 and short termist approach completely dump the efforts of friends who have stood by them and instead of helping them to foster a healthy future. It is this lack of historical connectivity that destroys a lot of good will with the ret of the world, problems are not home-grown in my region they were either imported from the Soviets or the radical agenda that was considered important to eliminate the Bolsheviks rule from the Soviets Union, Soviet did implode, the peace dividend did come the Iron curtain did ascend but walking away form the nest where 35000 most deranged people were planted was foolishness of highest order, that needs to be accepted. Those who stood on the sidelines and were greatest allies of Soviets during the entire war like India may just sit down and relax, warfare is not something that they could afford to fight with the Soviets, who did that are the ones who are writing books today and that is irking a lot of people, history is not made or written it is imposed by the events we manage.

Like Hapsburgs Europe, the Spanish Empire or the British ruthless rule over Irish to integrate them to the main land, in all cases it was measures beyond democracy that were adopted. From 1100 on hand was ‘Magna carte’ on the other the ruthless regime in Ireland the two flourished hand in had, it took 900 years before freedom was accorded. Societies take a long time to integrate to reason and logic. The real battle is that our failing to understand that why these medieval societies are not part of the great rationale world, but in rush we are hurrying judgements and passing comments that have not relevant to the way societies move forward. Time is the greatest healer lets not forget and lets give them time and lets not dump people when they fight for you, leave them with some hope and education, the long term engagement is important, not as a benefactor but as a humane empire.
