Seems like the high voltage ultra capacitor is a material science problem. The Japanesse have been doing low voltage ultracapictors, with a more chemically oriented technology, for about 10-12 years.

Material science tends to move slowly, especially something like this. Expect about 3-5 years for the science to get solved, then 2-4 years for commercialization.

And that's pretty quick. Glad to see Kleiner Perkins is behind it, they don't give up easily.
