How in the heck is anyone supposed to know this? The schools don't teach it, do they?

Supposedly from his mother, who is from French speaking North Africa.

I recall a discussion I had here a long time ago with Nadine about a slur against Jews by a congressman. I most definitely had no idea that it was considered a slur and questioned how anyone could have known that. She claimed that a congressman operating in political circles would know that. I was unpersuaded. How can one know what another person should know? "Macaca" is so strange, though, that it took weeks before anyone in the press came up with a plausible notion of what it might mean and how he might know. The Tunisia connection sure seems better, at least better considered, than his original explanation of it related to the guy's mullet haircut. <g>
