The item which I thought was wrong in that statements was "rooted". The American left has lots of sources and is only faintly embodied in the Dem party at the moment. And the mix certainly includes Marx. But also a whole range of others. And Marx is a small ingredient. Not a large one.

"Rooted" is not even close.

Now if we were talking Norman Thomas, one of the grand old figures of American politics, that's another matter. ;-)
