Definitely a boy. You can tell by the rugged (masculine) outdoor setting in the background. My research also uncovered that Leonardo had started to paint an army traversing the bridge on the right, but had painted over it. This and a few other paintovers I uncovered will likely cause Dan Brown to write a sequel to the Da Vinci code.
