there must be some sort of a hold on these women to allow themselves to be subjected to that. You would think they would get together and have a Lorena Bobbitt party.

In those early yrs, around the turn of the century, the Mormon church and Utah state government were probably almost one and the same entity.
I can think of numerous states that statement would apply to at some point in their history. There are a number that entered the Union with established churches.

But this fails to explain the polygamous settlements in ARIZONA. It was never dominated by the Mormon Church.

Nor the ones presently in BC in Canada.

The numerous women and children in each so-called family are to be pitied. Their lives are diminished in order to inflate one man's ego.
I would not even attempt to argue that. Jeffs and his elk deserve long, long jail time. I certainly hope they get it.
