India is 12% Muslim and the President is elected by parliament. Pretty much anything you want to know can be found on en.wikipedia.org

The President of India is the head of state and first citizen of India and the Supreme Commander of the Indian armed forces. The President's role, however, is ceremonial: real executive authority is vested in the Council of Ministers, headed by the Prime Minister. The powers of the President of India is comparable to those of the monarch regent of the UK, the real authority being vested with the peoples' government.
