I don't quite understand the fuss. The word "nigger" was part of the common vernacular up until the mid-80s. There are/were a lot of common sayings employing the word, and it was common even on television and in movies through the 50s. "Redskin" was another such word, people didn't think much about it. To use today's sensibilities to judge the insensitivity of yesteryear doesn't make much sense.
