They're not stupid, just lazy. The obvious solution is for the phone company to verify the call is from the number for which records are requested, then mail the info to the address they have on record.

This HP fiasco is like a soap opera and news coverage is way of proportion to its importance. I guess congress would rather have hearings about this than about some of the pressing issues our nation faces.
