Pro, I am not advocating anything on the flag issue. I think Mr. Allen should have either worn the flag and kept wearing it, explaining that it was a valid part of Virginia's history, etc. or not worn it ever (as many Southern politicians have figured out was a good idea)....or just stopped wearing it without trying to explain why he stopped...just stop. But when he indicates he did it because he NOW (or then) realized the pain it caused some, he opens the door to claims of insensitivity and hypocritical conduct. Then someone is always going to be unhappy with what you say....even some of his former base are angry.

As to his jewish roots...same rule applies. Don't talk about "still eating ham"...simply smile, praise your mother and other antecedents, relish the chance to learn more....and shut up.

I know you like this guy and maybe he will end up being President some day, but politically he is a dull tool. Webb is hardly sharper, but I can't believe Allen is making this race so close!

Why was the American student of Indian ancestry who was working for Webb's campaign and videotaping Allen's campaign openly and honestly (a very common practice) a dikhead?

The battle flag is NOT 'the Confederate Flag'... (it is but one of many).

On the other-hand, the battle flag WAS REVIVED and ADOPTED by segregationists in the 1950s across the land and became a symbol of the 'separate but equal' segregationist cause.

(I find it sad how little many people who are loudly thumping-on about their 'heritage' actually KNOW about history... their OWN, or others....)
