I think it goes on all over the world, only it's easier to get away with in rural areas in countries with spotty police forces. Some of the predators prey on prostitutes and women alone, and due to the low value some place on women, and even less value on prostitutes, they get away with it even easier. As to whether it's been going on as long as there have been people, maybe so, but killing your victims is no way to continue your genes.
