"Eventually even the poor will likely be better off. I care far more about alleviating poverty than I do about economic equality. To the extent I care about equality its mostly a concern for the well being of the non-rich.

Equality: Some research shows us that people tend to look for a 'similar other' to make their comparisons. If they are fairing even slightly better than their comparator, they believe they are doing well. Likewise, if their similar other is doing better than they are, it irritates them. In this light, general well being becomes a non-issue.

There is no comparison between the 'poor' of this country and the poor of the sahara desert for example. If the poor of the Sahara had what is available to welfare recipients of this country they would be very greatful. If a welfare recipient of this country could inherit a small business that brought in 200K per year they would figure their ship had come in... etc etc. to wealthy, rich, super rich, Kings and Queens etc.
