Sure, Martin authorized it originally, years ago, when all of us were under illusions,

Martin agreed for the Canadian forces to take the lead in Afghanistan during the last election. It was announced after he lost the election, it was possibly his last act as PM. And try not to forget that it was martin and Layton who voted to send the troops there in the first place.

Saw,
Harper had a choice. Well yes but he would be in favour of the Afghanistan mission regardless, so it just made it easier for him... The disingenuous part of this as I see it comes from Mr. Martin. Since he did authorise this as Ichy points out where does he really get off with his recent comments ? Frankly I'm utterly disgusted, but not surprised by Martin. How little does he (Martin) value our soldiers lives' that he would commit them with so little understanding of the situation over there ? Mr. Harper on Afghanistan is at least honest on this so far... The biggest travesty here IMHO is Iraq.. Invading Iraq (aside from being wrong in of itself) and leaving such a mess in Afghanistan only reinforces in my mind the dishonest motives for going to Iraq... If Harper makes any indication that he wants to abet that exercise I will be jumping up and down along with you...

The US spends 500 billion annually Saw that is really irrelevant IMO. We have no hope of competing on that front unless we get nuclar ;o).... The point is simply to exert sovereignty ... So we can have a leg to stand on in international court... Try this link...
