It served it's purpose for over a thousand yrs and has only lost it's grip on the average person in the last 50-75yrs. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword. That's why Jewish clerics wrote the Torah(?), Christian clerics wrote The Bible and Islamic Clerics wrote The Koran.
