The history of mankind has always been replete with nations disagreeing with one another and their armed conflicts for asserting their national pride or establishing their hegemony over others, or for lebensraum, or for acquiring others' wealth and resources, or for any one or any combination of these objectives.

To be sure, the Muslim radicals in the Middle East of one stripe or another will always find cause celebre of sorts for Jihad.

Maybe the following approach should be tried for whatever it is worth: that is, leave the Middle East folks alone to let them sort things out amongst themselves while Americans keep their defenses up at home and wherever else they have vested interests. Let the Muslims decimate and weaken themselves as much as possible and hopefully establish a new equilibrium and, if need be, the Americans will deal with them once and for all.

How does this sound to you? Impractical? Wrongheaded?
or what? Will America be afraid of other powers getting in to fill the vacuum in the meantime?

It certainly looks like America is between a rock and a hard place, doesn't it?
