"Every member of our military is a volunteer. That's not quite true. Ask those of them who were held over for the "good of the service." But, even so, "volunteer" for what? Implicit in the contract we have with our soldiers is our somber duty to make wise, just and reasonable choices when we send them off to kill and be killed. They rely on us to make careful choices and to value their lives equally with our own. To say, as you and Rumsfeld have, that our soldiers shouldn't complain because, after all, they volunteered, is to overlook that sacred obligation. I stand by what I said; for each of us the measure of a just war is whether WE'D be willing to die for the cause we're sending others to die for. For the war in Iraq, whether we're "for or agin it" the answer is, I believe, a resounding "NOT MY LIFE" from most Americans. That makes the views of those of us who oppose it consistent. It also means that most of the pro-war hawks are hypocrites.

Woodward says there are 1 attack on our military every 15 minutes and we have military guys build schools while this is going on. Who are they building schools for? ...those Iraqi kids that are throwing rocks at them?
