Back in the 80s, it was FIRREA (Financial Institutions Reform Recovery and Enforcement Act). I remember when FIRREA passed, one of my major clients came back from Washington after a failed lobbying effort and pretty much said the S&Ls were doomed. Could these guidelines be the 2006 version of FIRREA? I need to reexamine some of the lenders who had reported or presented recently. It should not be too difficult to see what portion of their book of business is going to vanish.
