Fascism is statism for the masses rather than the elite, totalitarian "lite" (although Nazi Germany wasn't "lite" on totalitarianism). It's "easier" with a strong man who rationalizes anti-democratic rule by telling us "you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs," whatever that means. Democracy, freedom, free minds, free markets, are all "messier" than autocracy, but what autocrats call "messy" those who believe in freedom call "creative destruction." If nobody wants to buy buggy whips anymore, you don't outlaw cars, you retool the buggy whip factory to make something necessary for automobiles.
