Bush was never in the military. He was in the Texas Air Guard, Champagne Unit, a cushy weekend gig to avoid Vietnam. In those days that was the way to AVOID military duty, unlike today. And he got in because his last name was Bush. Only reason.

Also, there is no evidence Bush ever flew a jet, or even a Cessna. Some people claim he did, but all we really know is that in 1971 he was grounded, not allowed to fly and had some booze and drug problems, then went AWOL.
