LIAR. The atom bombs didn't save any US lives. That was propaganda put out by the defense department. Rent the movie FOG OF WAR and Robert McNamara will confess that big secret sin. He will also tell you that Johnson and Nixon's people knew that Vietnam was totally wrong, but they decided to stay there for many years costing 55,000 US lives and 2 million lives in all, just so they didn't have to look like a "loser". Bush is in the same destructive mind trap now. But Bush should have learned the lesosns of Vietnam. Instead, he's making the same mistake, only worse because unlike Southeast Asia, the Middle East really is a threat to our longterm security.
