Nothing is 100% one way or the other... rest assured, I've done plenty of real "hands on" type touring also, I've lived in the economy of foreign countries for months at a time, I've lived in the Pacific rim for several years, live in Japan for two years and was actually dreaming in Japanese when I left, I've seen Viet Nam at the worst of times when I did lots of camping out compliments of Uncle Sam, and so on... but right now I prefer to do all my camping at the Ritz Carlton or in the top deck grand suite on a cruise ship, there are all kinds of cruise ships, we only sail the top class market of vessels and I can tell you they're not "touristy," I have nothing against enjoying beef tenderloin with a pepper Madeira sauce, or lobster, or grilled New Zealand lamb along with my veggies, and so on... but still, we plan to get to Australia about 3 weeks prior to the cruise so we can get a taste and feel of that area... but I still won't eat any kangaroo, it makes me jumpy...
