And it's super chips are still close to 2 yrs away, they are behind in 65nm, behind in low cost single chip solutions and are experiencing Carrier defections.” I don’t think the situation is a bleak as you think. Wonder if you listened to Dr. Jha’s recent presentation and separate breakout session? + All MSMs in the past 6 months are 65nm + Investing heavily in 45nm + will deliver 1ghz processor MSM by ‘06YE + QSC6010- Single chip / low cost devices/ in production with first devices to be delivered in ........Oct/Nov, MOT has announced a phone, and 18 other designs are currently in work + QSC6020, and 6030 began sampling in 1Q06 + MSM6800- DORA (Enhanced platform) will have devices in market by YE06 + MSM6550- EV-DO (Enhanced platform) has 50 handset models launched + MSM6500- EV_DO (Multimedia platform) has 170 handset models launched + MSM6245- WEDGE (Multimedia platform) is a much lower cost chip enabling h/s within 20% ......cost of comparable GSM models. Handsets to be launched between Feb /Apr 07 + MSM6275- HSDPA (Enhanced platform) currently in handsets sold by Cingular / Samsung + MSM6280- HSDPA (Enhanced platform) first handsets in Nov’06 Again, Perhaps most interesting is that MSMs in development ** tripled (3 fold increase** in Cy05 /06 from earlier levels. No doubt the above R&D emphasis was the **main** contributor to NOK’s/ TXN **complete** withdrawal from the CDMA baseband market which represents 20% of the world’s handset volume. Additionally, this spearheaded NOK’s use of the Q’s MSMs for their continued CDMA handset sales and effectively eliminated Texas Instruments as their supplier. WRT, “getting it's butt kicked in UMTS”, that may be true with the Q currently only having ~ 20-25% of the handset market and 100% of the laptop market. However, with less than 200 M current 3GSM subs out of 2 to 3 billion, we’re still only in the 1st inning of that huge developing market. I really think you’re mainly frustrated like most of us the stagnating share price over the past two years despite revenue and EPS growth over 70% , and misplacing the blame of price stagnation on R&D expenditures.
