Without any doubt, the same way as Mandela groomed him.

But clearly, Mbeki had other ideas and I think what he had in mind was to "Mugabify" himself as the permanent President/dictator of SA. In three years time when no "suitable" incumbent was in sight he would have had the Constitution changed to enable this.

Even more that. As Zuma grows in strength and stature I have no doubt that he and his supporters will challenge Mbeki directly -- even while he is still the president. Furthermore, anyone who Mbeki now attempts to put up as a presidential candidate will be attacked in every conceivable way. They could even assassinate that person.

And this is what I fear -- that talk turns to violence, and it could, at the drop of a hat.
