"Documents Show Rice Was Briefed on Threat

Responding to charges made in Bob Woodward's new book, the Washington Post says Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice "vehemently denied that she ever received a special CIA warning about an imminent terrorist attack on the United States, angrily rebutting new allegations about her culpability in U.S. policy failures before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by al Qaeda."

Rice said it was "incomprehensible" that she would have ignored such a warning.

Whoops, not so fast.

The New York Times reports "a review of White House records has determined that George J. Tenet, then the director of central intelligence, did brief Condoleezza Rice and other top officials on July 10, 2001, about the looming threat from Al Qaeda." The records were produced today by a State Department spokesman.

McClatchy Newspapers says the 9/11 commission was given the same briefing rice heard by Tenet in 2004."
