I need to reply to your post.

To anyone who has qualms or anxiety issues regarding the Nokia/Trimble press release, I strongly urge you to read data_rox' post and his bolded paragraph, specifically. It is critical. This has been my understanding for several years now. It was this information that convinced me that Qualcomm had checkmated the competition some time back.

More recently, I saw a comment from Cingular that they would not provide turn-by-turn applications because their network solution was not accurate enough. This is probably true for T-Mobile as well. Some location-based services will still work at 1 Km, but they’ll always pale in comparison to 20 meters. GPS works as intended outdoors; a true A-GPS system is needed indoors. This leaves outdoor GPS location-based services for Nokia, et al.

Regards
