I believe the reason vast scale destruction on the infrastructure was inflicted by the Israelis was due to their mistaken notion that by inflicting wholesale terror and fear through indiscriminate bombing and killing, Hezbollah would be defeated quickly. Too bad, Hezbollah proved to be more tenacious and resilient than the Israelis had expected. About three years ago, a poster on SI asked me what would be the quickest way to defeat the Muslim terrorists. I recommended delegitimizing their claims against America. That poster thought I was a fool and he said most adamantly that striking terror and fear in the hearts of the Moslems and humiliating them was the way to go. I disagreed, and we left the discussion at that. Later on when Fallujah was destroyed by heavy bombing and artillery, and the tortures at Abou Ghraib came to light, it seemed to me the Americans believed that striking terror and fear in the hearts of the enemies and humiliating them would be the quickest way to make the Muslims cry Uncle! Unfortunately, their tactics didn't work. I was horrified when I saw that the Israelis were adopting similar tactics in Lebanon --- tactics that were found to be ineffective. Oh well, I guess some fools never learn, eh? .
