Well, he certainly should have been removed from the children's caucus. You don't need a guilty finding to be careful with and around kids.

Something tells me this is going to get bigger before it gets smaller. Waiting for the first page to come forward and claim physical contact with him...

Foley is a gay man acting like gay men act. If Hassert had confronted him publicly with this he would have been branded a homophobe by exactly the same people how are now excoriating him.

As the mother of sons (as I know you are also), there is always a fine line you walk when confronting situations that are sensitive. I imagine the parents were trying to handle this carefully. To contact someone else regarding Foley's behavior is a pretty serious thing to do, and should have set off alarm bells BIGtime in that program.

Whether it was legal or not (and again, I bet you agree with me that that's pretty irrelevant to this whole situation) when the government offers a program for a high school student who is still considered a minor for most purposes, they can't afford this kind of risk. In loco parentis.

It wouldn't matter a great deal to me, as a parent,what was technically legal.
