not sure what you mean "hoping to benefit twice". do not confuse VLO with some crappy tech stock that touts fake pro forma earnings and tries to earn extra money for executives by playing beat the number. VLO stated in their release that they are excluding the profits from their asset sale, unlike cos like IBM and INTC that pad their op numbers with asset sales. they could've beaten the original number just by including that asset sale, which many tech companies do all the time.

this is a real company that actually benefits from lower prices--they just said they bought back 10 million shares this Q, so lower prices are better.
