taking away deposit insurance is not a good idea. then you have bank runs. it's not good to have a society that doesn't trust its banks. that's why bank behavior needs to be regulated.

fact of the matter is, raising DTI limits does not improve affordability; it just raises the price of houses. instead of 35% being the dividing line, it becomes 50% or whatever. so people just go further into debt, but gain nothing for it.
