I took my mother to a chronic pain specialist over a year ago. He used radio frequencies somehow that severed nerve endings in her spine. That really worked well, but the problem is the nerve ending migrate back together over time and the pain returns. He was not approved by her HMO and ran up a $7k bill. Medicare wouldn't pay a dime on it since the HMO had not referred us. The doc ended up taking $2500 from us and told us to go away. She is back with the pain again, but keeps it tolerable with methadone. All in all, a big waste of time and money.

This explains it quite well. I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but in Atlanta, we must be referred to the pain management group.

I love my doctor, he is so caring and says, they do not believe in letting their patients suffer...of course, short of a time machine sending me back 20 years, there's not a lot he can do.

I was always one of those super moms who thought she had to do it all, cut the grass, move heavy furniture, take the rug outside to be cleaned..etc...everyone says I'm anal, I guess now I'm paying the price....LOL
