Hastert inherited the problem. How does a homosexual having IM sex with aids compare to Gary Stubbs who actually had sex with 16 year old pages?

How do you know its just IM sex? It seems to me the Republican leaders in Congress are hysterical for a reason.

I have to believe that leadership looked at historical precedence which in this case was set by democrats. If he were to banish him, it would be rightly viewed as discrimination.

Actually, you have missed some important details. Back with the Stubbs scandal there was also the GOP scandalperpetrated by Mr. Crane. Mr. Crane was a married men with four children. He was a GOPer out of Illinois. He was having sex with a page....a female one.....I believe in 1982. Mr. Stubbs' sexual romp was in 1973. He was not censured until 1982 when Mr. Crane was censured as well. Why did the house decided to censure them rather than force them to resign? You would have to ask Mr. Gingrich. I believe he was the House Whip at the time and he decided on censure.

BTW when the House censured Mr. Stubbs he literally turned his back on the House. Shortly after the censuring, Mr. Stubbs and the former page who was 27 by that time held a news conference and announced it was no one's business but their own what they did behind closed doors. You see its not illegal to have sex with someone who is over 16 when its consensual. The irony about Mr. Foley is that he is the one who sponsored new legislation making it illegal to solicit sex over the internet with someone under the age of 18. It is that legislation which may be used to prosecute him when he gets out of 'rehab'.

Pick a side, any side. Let's hear your complete points of view.

Its very simple I do not think its proper for a congressman to solicit sex with someone who works for them and is under the age of 18. Someone who is that age is not equipped to deal with that kind of approach. Last nite, pages he approached were saying that a congressman paying them that kind of attention was flattering even though they are straight. That's not surprising. Typically, these are kids thinking of going into politics when they get out of school. They want to be congressmen so they experience a great deal of awe around them.

At the same time, I feel sorry for Hastert. Clearly, he was not equipped to deal with such a problem. And that doesn't surprise me.....this stuff never gets discussed in the GOP world. Everyone is afraid to broach the subject.........and when it is broached, its done with such ugly condemnation. So if you don't talk about it or are afraid to talk about it, how do you determine what to do when it happens? Should he have 'fired' Foley, told him to take a sabbatical, told him to get therapy, etc. What? If Hastert understood the problem better, he would have understood that child predators are smooth talkers who tend to be sociopaths. So I could see Foley acting all remorseful in front of Hastert and saying it will never happen again and then laughing all the way back to his office.

The truth is sexual predators exist at all levels of our society.....Republicans or Democrats, rich or poor, educated or uneducated....they run the gamut. All societies have them.....whether its this country or Japan or Saudi Arabia or Brazil or Austria. For those of us who do not fancy adolescents under the age of 18 or prepubescent children under the age of 13, its fairly disgusting......particularly the children under 13. So what? Its a part of life and we have to deal with it.

I think in the case of Foley, there is more that has not come out. So we need to be prepared for it and deal with it accordingly.
