I have another friend who owns a nano. He says it has changed his ideas about music complete. He's as much in love with his nano as the music on it. He says the tactile feeling and visual of the device is important.

Both of us come from art backgrounds that are influenced on our cultural observations, so I think his subjective observations are a little more candid and thoughful than most. (He's a very very good artist.)

At this point I think he's a little confused about which group he belongs to. He still has his CDs but he downloads the CDs to listen. He's also a user of Apple music applications. He contends that the iTunes DRM is corrupting his digital music files. He's not so happy with the proliferation of file formats but is resigned to it.

it was interesting that you ended up settling on a device with what you see as having serious shortcomings....I desire portability and have no interest in being able to store a large amounts of data on an iPod.

It seems you didn't read my post. I think I clearly stated I think the Ipod / nano designs are first class, what I don't like is the limitations and design of the software interface / Itunes. As for settling, that is something I have not done. The 60gig Ipod video was a return gift for a favor from a friend. I didn't buy it and would never buy it. I would have bought the Ipod nano. IMHO Flash is the only way to go for a portable player. I am now looking around for a 8 gig flash player that lets me control the music storage layout. Iriver does but their flash size is still too small.

This also reminds me why many if not most PC users dislike Apple. They have to give up too much control, for the convenience of using Apple.

Allen no need to reply.
