To: Peter Dierks who wrote (2396 ) 10/6/2006 8:20:40 AM From: one_less Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 10087 You allege that I want Hastert to resign because he didn’t reprimand Foley. 1)I responded that I never made such an assertion. 2)I posted more than one comment on Hastert, so I'm not sure where you are coming from with that allegation. But as I review the posts (mine), your allegation doesn't seem merited even for someone reading between the lines. 3)It is my opinion that Foley is the ONLY person who is deserving of any consequences for his conduct. He was not disciplined, or fired, or arrested; he resigned in dishonor which I believe is perfectly appropriate under the circumstances. 4)Hastert has fouled up by weighing in on the mud slinging slap down with the media and democrat critics. It demonstrated poor judgment on his part and was entirely inappropriate for a House Leader to get in the middle of a blame game that can have no winners … especially when the source was not where he pointed his finger. For that reason (which I stated), he will no longer be an effective House Leader. 5)I recommended he step aside (as House Leader) but clarified that he should not resign from Congress as he is a good public servant. 6)Now you are paraphrasing something you detected between or around the lines of my comment. … Your mistake, then and now. 7) Outside his dealing with (reprimand or not) the conduct of Foley (which I have no opinion on and don't give a hoot about), he messed up by blaming clinton, the dems, and the media. If we disagree on that, we have a legitimate debate to pursue. You: "you wanted Hastert to resign because he looked at the same evidence the FBI said they couldn't do anything with and only lightly reprimanded the alleged pervert. " These are the pertinent comments from me. There are more but I don't think they contradict these. Feel free to include them in your response, as further contextual support for your argument. Me: Hastert doesn't need to resign as a congressman . However, it was inappropriate for him to retaliate by blaming the media and the dems for this sociodrama circus, IMO. They all need to get back to work, if they can't attend to work because of all this, they need to step aside and let someone else get the job done. We don't need gossipy old…. Another me: "Dennis Hastert blaming his problems on Clinton operatives WASHINGTON Dogged by accusations that he failed to protect House teen pages from a congressman's come-ons, House Speaker Dennis Hastert says Democrats are fanning the scandal.Hastert blames his problems on the media and Democratic operatives, even suggesting former President Clinton might somehow be involved. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Hastert suggested Clinton's people knew about Foley's actions all along and sat on it. And he warned that when the G-O-P base "finds out who's feeding this monster, they're not going to be happy." "A-B-C News, which broke the Foley story, says their sources weren't Democrats, but, rather, former pages who'd been sponsored by Republican lawmakers." Best regards, gem
