Why is this an issue? Don't you think AMD can make socket F chips as cheaply as AM2 chips, or nearly so? I would doubt that the silicon inside a socket F Opteron is any different that the CPU chip inside an Athlon 64 X2.

It is a marketing decision, not a technical one, for AMD to decide how low down the price curve Socket F chips for 4x4 will be sold.
