In my Mom's home at the edge of Pope AFB near Fort Bragg the over two story rock fireplace had a huge moose head on it. The antlers didn't reach record size but very near it. It was a room that had been added to an old farm house and was featured long before she purchased it in Better Homes and Gardens I believe. At the other end was a polar bear and on either side two large wolf skins. There were other antlers and heads around this huge room.

The entrance was through a very wide single door, the moose could not go through the door at any angle.

When she had saved enough to remodel/extend the tiny kitchen the wall obviously had to come off. So... as there was a way for the moose to roam free ... so to speak.. she called the Moose, the Elks and any other type club she thought would be interested and offered it for free. They never came out... I suppose they didn't believe her. So we decorated that moose for Christmas... one time someone hung a cigarette from his lips and put a beret on his head (I know who did that hehe and it was not I)... had to get a tall ladder to do that... and our moose probably remains in that home til this day... countless, countless stories from that home. I had a bear skin for quite awhile from there, but he finally began to shed like crazy...

I do have the deerskin paintings from there. When we left we removed what we could. The deerskin paintings are initialed C.W. I took those as Mom had countless indian relics and pictures and two full arrows that still head feathers handed down from her family to her. (loads of old military history there) One of these days I must get them appraised and sold.... sigh... but they belong with a real collector/historian who will see them preserved. I guess I will again have to say hello to ebay. Been stalling a bit ;)

Many, of the heads/skins were probably from Alaska as the Colonel who sold us the home was a hunter and had been stationed up there before he came down the the Bragg area and retired in that home. That great room was built with single vertical pine boards from floor to ceiling having been hewn from trees on the property.

Great Home! :)
so, in a way... I have been acquainted with your kin, ManyMoose :) He was lovely...
