It made good copy and helped the republicans take away a lot of the church vote. I remember not too long ago that church folk voted more "liberal".

Then the republicans tied the tax issue to the liberals too. The reason that taxes are so high is because of the liberals. Just the meaning of the word "liberal" when it comes to taxes makes you think liberal helping. Juxtapose that with "conservative" and what that word implies with taxes.

But it's wrong thinking. The republicans might not tax the rich, but they don't mind running up the deficit on their watch. The "conservatives" spend your money liberally but because they are not conservative they don't care. They'll spend your money, and then send you a bill with interest! This lowers the value of the dollar and makes domestic labor cheaper. Then when the "liberals" get back in power, because they are conservative and want to lower the deficit and increase the value of the dollar they will raise taxes on the rich to pay for that. Someone's got to be the conservative around here and pay for the party the liberals have been having.

That's why I don't like the word liberal any more, because it describes regressives better than it describes progressives.

It's the Jimmy Swaggart GOP preaching virtue and demonizing sin during the day, while going out and guiltily committing sins by night. Just total hypocrites. And I'm sure there are dozens more top gay rightwingers, some of whom might even be worse than Foley.
