longtime Republican adviser said the 10-member commission is reviewing alternatives for Iraq, including creating a power-sharing arrangement among Sunni, Shiite and Kurd factions. A complete U.S. withdrawal over the next year is unlikely because that would unleash ``the biggest civil war you've ever seen,'' Baker said.

I said the invasion would unleash a civil war in Iraq before the war started. All the republicans called me an asshole and an idiot. Now it's standard wisdom amongst top republicans like Warner and Baker. But first they had to sacrifice 100,000's of men, women and children and 100's of billions of dollars to gain this wisdom.

I heard Baker was brought in to give GW a way out of the morass, by suggesting (along with Senator Warner) after the election that we can withdraw from Iraq and change course after all.

Bush would them hem and haw and admit Baker is probably right, so he agrees with him. Even it's the same plan as Murtha and Kerry that Bushies have been demonizing, Bush will change his mind and become an official lame duck no one respects anymore. Also, a job at Baker's Carlyle Group will be waiting for GW, so long as he signs a few papers giving Carlyle some juicy Iraq and government contracts, and hands our pots over to Dubai.
