my portfolio up a little today. its amazing to me how much the metals and oils have declined giving how solid the spot prices seem to be.

Adding a little to my few shares of offshore contract driller ESV. Forward p/e of 6+ (Yahoo, 12/'08 est.) attracts. Basing buys on analysts' estimates is very dangerous. I am hoping even if analysts are wrong about ESV, they'll be right close enough such that an actual p/e of 7-8 in '08 would still make this stock attractive to me at today's current price. OTOH, when analysts are off -- which is often, maybe mostly -- they can be very off. finance.yahoo.com
