Part of the problem with over paying CEOs 500x an engineer is they come to believe their opinions and everything else are worth 500x those of others... I had the idea some time ago that boards should have shareholders like us on them.... a few "early Buffett Types" who are there to watch out for the value of their shares... SOme of us ex employees who did well accumulating our shares over a 20 year period and were smart and good enough to diversify so we could semiretire on our investments.... I just don't know how you would keep these types (myself included as I'd love the job) from being corrupted by the money process because their participation would actually be worth MORE than the other board members I'd think..... so the pay they get... might convince them to go along in exchange for being added to other boards.... The hope was powerful, very rich people like Perkins would not be corrupted by the process... so for that I'm sad he left. I guess there is a trade-off where clash-of-the-Titan-Egos can be as damaging as the process that leads to over paying CEOs.... and giving out excessive stock options. Heck, I feel anyone who is not giving 101% for millions of dollars a year should be kicked out... they don't need extra stock option incentives.... But all the people at that "pay grade" believe hey are worth thousands of times what others are paid and they are who are on the boards.... no easy fix unless you only buy BRKA... and Buffett doesn't do tech.
