I didn't say a patent is a subsidy. I said it was a government support for a technology. Or you could call it "government intervention". Yes it is intended to be beneficial to society but many government interventions are. This particular intervention might have a better claim to be beneficial than many others but it doesn't make it "not an intervention", at most that makes it "a good intervention".
