In your over-eagerness to criticize and be didactic, you displayed your ignorance and your one-track mind in a most egregious way! And you accused me of not knowing what I was talking about! What a pathetic attempt to assert yourself!!!

The struggle to control material wealth does indeed have a major impact on global conflict. However, there are many perspectives on world conflicts that are equally valid. When ever we see someone narrow it down to one issue, we find they probably have ulterior motives for doing that.

You are jumping to conclusions!
You assumed more than what was in my line about control of the oil. I said essentially that the country that controls the oil supply pretty well controls the world. I didn't say absolutely control. You may not agree but what I said about control of the oil supply is essentially correct in the world of today! Now that the US currency is fast losing ground as the world's reserve currency because of the US's humongous debts, the US has been seen as using OIL or attempting to use it as the next world reserve "currency". That is just one of the reasons why the US is hell-bent on achieving control of the OIL supply (and bashing GOLD at the same time). Of course, there's always more than meets the eye!

"Bush, the guy that you so ardently worship .."

I didn't say you voted for Bush. But you certainly sounded like you were in support of Bush and this led me to believe you are an ardent worshiper of Bush.

You simply don't know what you are talking about with reference to Sunnis and Shi'ites.

Oh really? Only in your wildest dreams! Of course, if it gives you pleasure to believe you are right, be my guest!

But look here: what you know about the Sunnis and Shi-ites is probably based on your having read about them, and what you
have read might have been littered with errors/inaccuracies/exaggerations/falsehoods. What I know about the Sunnis and Shi-ites is based on my personal acquaintance with both Sunni and Shi-ite Imans and discussions with them in addition to my reading about the Muslim sects. For your and others' benefit, the Sunnis and Shi-ites are two Muslim sects in Islam, the former constituting mainstream Islam. Ever heard of the Sunni leader Abu Bakar and the Shi-ite leader Ali and their relationship to Muhammad and the schism that ensued in the years following Muhammad's ascension into Paradise?

----------

There are many kinds of colonial yokes; some of them are brutal and repressive (like the ones you seem to only know about) while others border on the gentle and benign. If you have ever lived in a colonial country that was ruled by Great Britain, or have read about British colonialism and diplomacy, you would not have jumped to conclusions regarding what I wrote. Maybe your ignorance arose from American parochialism, smugness and arrogance????????????

It is a fact that the Sunnis and Shi-ites lived in peaceful coexistence when the British were colonial masters of Iraq. That happened largely because British diplomacy was generally smooth, subtle and refined in direct contrast to the crude and crass diplomacy of the US. No wonder the British and the Europeans have been saying that American leaders often acted like mere adolescents when crafting their foreign policy! To be sure, the American record speaks volumes for itself!

Just so that you know, let me reiterate that it is possible for diverse groups of people to live in peaceful coexistence, even under a colonial yoke. In Malaysia, for example, the Malays, Chinese and Indians lived in peaceful existence for more than a century prior to their achieving Independence in 1957 from the British colonial masters. As diverse as they were in their language, culture and religion and what else, those three racial groups, thanks to their peaceful coexistence and mutual cooperation, succeeded in freeing themselves from the colonial yoke!

Too bad, your knowledge is based on the printed word which, more often than not, is biased, or skewed and/or inaccurate. You will do well to remember the old adage that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! and that whatever education you have had does not make you omniscient (at best only a FKIA). And don't forget there is always more than meets the eye!

Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend.

''Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.''

Watson replies, ''I see millions of stars.''

''What does that tell you?''

Watson ponders for a minute. ''Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Timewise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it's evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?''

Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks. ''Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent.''
